Are You Going to Heaven? Part 1
Are you going to Heaven? Have you confessed Jesus Christ as your Savior? Those are the questions I asked myself on October 30, 2017. The answer was “Yeah, I think so.” I mean, I grew up my whole life going to church. I even went to Sunday School. And I prayed every night! I had to be saved. But I wasn’t.
Why? Because going to church doesn’t mean you’re saved. Neither does going to Sunday School. And neither does praying! In Romans 10:9, it says “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” The Contemporary English Version says, “if you believe with all your heart.” I like this translation because growing up I did believe in Jesus. I believed He existed. Believed in the miracles He did. I had some basic head knowledge, but … that’s all it was. Even though I believed in Jesus with my head and called myself a Christian, I wasn’t saved because I didn’t believe with my heart.
There IS a difference! Just because someone believes—or say they believe—in Jesus, it doesn’t mean they’re saved. They might only believe with their head (like I had) or they might believe with their heart but have never confessed Jesus as Lord. It’s so important we confess Him! Jesus said, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33). Whether you confess or deny Jesus will determine where you spend eternity.
My question to you is: Are you going to heaven? It’s only because I was open to the truth and honest with myself that I realized I wasn’t. So, on October 30, 2017, I repented and immediately got into right-standing with God. My life has been forever changed.
