PLFM Core Value: Love

Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second was to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37). This is why love is PLFM’s first, and most important, core value.

PLFM board member Rev. Dr. Alvin Larke, Jr. says John 3:16 is his favorite scripture, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Larke explains, “I think that we would not be in the position we’re in now if people would genuinely love people, respect differences and understand that we’re more similar than we are different.”

“God loves all of us and because He loves all of us, He sent His son to die for us,” Larke continues. “And we’re not asking you to die for anyone. We’re just asking you to die to sin. Those sinful thoughts of who’s who and who’s not who. No one is better than anyone else.”

“We’re all here for a given purpose and if I can help you to fulfill that purpose, that’s what I’m required to do. As a teacher and professor, that’s all I’ve tried to instill in my students–that regardless of where they were coming from, I was going to help them get where they wanted to go and not even think about where they’ve come from,” Larke concludes.

PLFM is excited to teach youth and their families that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you become a new person. Your old (sinful) life is gone and your new life has begun (2 Corinthians 5:17).
